The Washington County incident happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday, May 12, in the town of Easton.
New York State Police said troopers attempted to stop a vehicle on State Route 40 for traffic violation when the driver failed to stop, leading to a pursuit.
The driver, 19-year-old Rensselaer County resident Kevin Penadicent, of Troy, reportedly continued driving at a high rate of speed and turned off his headlights to try and evade police.
Penadicent eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole, severing it, before coming to rest in a field. Troopers found the teen and his passenger still in the car and uninjured.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Penadicent was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and reckless endangerment of property.
He was issued an appearance ticket to the Easton Town Court and was released.
